Andersson Hed makes early move

An early hattrick of birdies saw Fredrik Andersson Hed join Miguel Angel Jiménez and Matteo Manassero in a share of the lead during the final round of the UBS Hong Kong Open.

The 40 year old Swede, who made 14 trips to Qualifying School before winning his first European our title in Italy two years ago, birdied the second, two-putted the long third, then hit a fine approach to three feet at the next to be three under through six holes.

At 11 under he joined 48 year old Jiménez – looking to become the oldest winner in European Tour history – after the Spaniard followed missed chances at the first two holes with a five foot birdie at the third.

Italian 19 year old Manassero, in contrast The European Tour’s youngest winner and the only teenager with three titles after last week’s victory in Singapore, holed an eight foot chance at the second and the from 25 feet at the fifth.

New Zealand’s Michael Campbell, the joint overnight leader with Jiménez, followed a ten foot birdie at the first with a bogey at the third after pitching through the green then leaving his return chip short, and as a result lay one behind on ten under.

Chinese veteran Zhang Lian-wei and Australian Marcus Fraser were tied for fifth on nine under.
