Flying Fitz hits the front
Matt Fitzpatrick will take a one-shot lead into the weekend after birdieing four of his last five holes at Kingsbarns. Just five days after helping Europe regain the Ryder Cup in Italy, the Englishman was on top again as he followed a 67 on day one at Carnoustie with a 64 to get to 13 under. Spaniard Nacho Elvira and home favourite Grant Forrest were his nearest challengers, two shots clear of English duo Marcus Armitage and Matthew Southgate. In the team event, Fitzpatrick was playing alongside mum Susan who, despite playing with a brace on her leg, contributed four birdies and an eagle to a score of 58 as the pair moved into second on 22 under, a shot behind Julien Guerrier and Stephane Connery. "I think I said it last year, I just want to make the cut with mum and do well for the team and you never know what can happen," said Matt.
Shot of the day?
Everyone knows that Billy Horschel, with a FedEx Cup, Rolex Series title and World Golf Championships win on his CV is a truly elite golfer but what about wife Brittany? "After playing in college I took about 10 to 15 years off, I didn’t even touch a club," she told this week's Player Blog presented by Enterprise. "I had three wrist surgeries in college so that killed it for me for a while. But our four-year-old son loves golf, so I started going out with him and chipping again and I thought OK I love the game, so I’m playing a little more." We can tell, Brittany - look at this for a shot. Take a bow.

We'd like to think Tommy Fleetwood was wearing his Europe shoes for luck after last week but that is not the case. "They are only ones I've got," he said. "I actually didn't really want to wear them. I was like, I'm going to ruin these shoes. They are the only ones I've got this week, so it's actually a bit of a disaster if these get ruined, so I'll do my best to keep them dry."
