Alfred Dunhill Links Championship day one - What they said

Paul Dunne and Nicolas Colsaerts sat atop a congested leaderboard at five under after day one of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Tyrell Hatton

Here, we take a look at what some of their closest challengers had to say after the first round.

Tyrrell Hatton (68, -4)

"I thought it was a pretty tough day out there, to be honest. Obviously the front nine was worst wind that you can ask for, into off the left, and you kind of get the benefit when you make the turn on 12 and then you come in. Overall, I'm pretty happy. Felt like I left a couple of shots out there but it's not easy out in those conditions. I think four under is a good score today. I think I drove the ball pretty good. I only hit it in one pot bunker so, yeah, that was pretty good today. I was able to give myself a few opportunities."

Oliver Fisher (68, -4)

I was very pleased with my back nine, which was the front. It was playing tough today. I think I hit three iron into the second and six iron into three, and three iron into four. So those holes were playing probably as long as I've ever played them here. I think the fifth, I had 72 yards on and I hit driver, three wood, nine iron - that hole is usually a pretty much gimmie birdie. Very pleased with my back nine. I'm happy to get around here today in four under. I think I holed out very well from sort of four or five feet. It wasn't easy on the greens. When you play a season of golf like we've just played, the greens generally coming in here have all been fairly quick. And you come out into the breeze and the greens are a little slower than maybe what we play week-to-week on the European Tour - which obviously they have to be because of the conditions - it's just a little bit to adjust to. So I was pleased with the way I holed out. I drove the ball well coming in which I was pleased with too."

Joël Stalter (68, -4)

"I played very, very well. It was windy. It's my first time here. People say the cut is low, blah, blah, blah - I think it's playing really tough. It's cold so it was tough at the beginning to get into the round and you were waiting a lot. So you get cold and I played really well. Started really well and I played well on the back nine. Had a nice four under."
