A second-round 70 was enough to keep India's Arjun Atwal out in front at the halfway stage of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open but he had a dangerous chasing pack breathing down his neck.
Three-time European Tour winner Atwal began the day four shots clear at the summit after producing a course-record 62 at Heritage Golf Club on Thursday, but he saw his advantage cut to a single shot after fellow early starters Dylan Frittelli and Laurie Canter posted second-round 66s, with Louis de Jager joining them on nine under par in the afternoon.
Here, we take a look at what some of Atwal's challengers had to say after their second rounds.
José-Filipe Lima (66, -8)
"Everybody who shoots a 66 would be happy. It's true this morning it was windy but I played very well. Like yesterday, when you have birdie opportunities, you hole some, miss some, but I didn't make any mistakes in my long game and I think that is the key here. Stay in the middle because from the rough it's tough to find a good length. I'm quite happy, I like Mauritius. This place is fantastic, I've been here many times. I like to play here."
Miguel Tabuena (68, -8)
"I'm pleased with the way I played today. I thought it would be less windy but it started blowing from the first hole. I knew anything under-par would be a great score. I played great but I need to work on my putting and I'll be ready for tomorrow. I personally think the back nine was the harder nine. I was glad to get it out of the way in two-under. It was gusty so I was second guessing the wind a lot. That cost me a few shots. I'm playing and striking the ball really well."
Louis Oosthuizen (68, -7)
"The first nine was probably not the greatest I've played. I played really nice on the back. I didn't make any putts - I made one eight-footer on 17 for par and that's it. I'm happy to be three behind with the way I've been playing. There's a lot of golf left on the weekend. There are definitely low numbers out there if you can roll the ball well. Today I just seemed to not be able to see the lines as well."
