Ahead of this week's BMW International Open we put some quickfire questions to Adri Arnaus after his Major Championship debut last week at Pebble Beach.
What was your first Major like?
Amazing, great fun! I enjoyed it a lot. It was such a high being able to qualify the way I did (from Walton Heath), finishing with some eagles and birdies.
What were your expectations going into the week?
I always try and fight for the win. It was a good week, I played all four rounds and I learned a lot from it.
How did it differ to a normal week on Tour?
Everything is one or two steps higher. Not just the course preparation which is incredible and tough. Outside the course you get treated to things like Player gifts. They make you feel very spoilt.
What surprised you?
To see I'm close to competing at the very top. Playing with the best in the world and playing well was a good surprise.
Were you starstruck?
It was a nice feeling to play alongside Tiger Woods for the first time. A lot of childhood memories came back of watching him which made me feel very good. On the final round I was on the shared tee box of the 4th and 17th, at the same time as Tiger and he actually had to wait and watch me hit. No pressure...
What disappointed you?
I tried to give my best on every shot. So it was a very positive attitude all week..
What player impressed you the most?
I played a practice round with Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari on Wednesday which was very nice.
What did you learn?
It was really good to have a strong attitude, staying positive and focused on every shot. Playing Major Championship courses teaches you a lot about strategy and hitting different shots which I can use now on the European Tour.
What will you do differently next time?
Next time I won't have to spend so much time preparing for a Major Course setup and learning new shots. I will have more time to focus on the golf course and not on adapting my game to new shots and techniques.
