acciona Open de España presented by Madrid - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from day three in Madrid.

Matthieu Pavon powered on, Dan Bradbury completed a rare hat-trick, Eddie Pepperell saw a tee-shot go down the pan and Mike Lorenzo-Vera was a lucky boy on Moving Day at the acciona Open de España presented by Madrid.

Here is everything you need to know from Saturday at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Pavon extends lead

Matthieu Pavon will take a two-shot lead into the final round as he maintained his fantastic form with a 66 on day three. The Frenchman has led the way since carding an opening 63 in the Spanish capital and produced a confident display of front-running to get to 16 under after 54 holes. England's Nathan Kimsey was his closest challenger after a 65, two clear of local favourite Alfredo Garcia-Heredia, French duo Romain Langasque and Mike Lorenzo-Vera and South African Zander Lombard. "I fought a lot today against my emotions," he said. "I like the place, I like the tournament and I know I did great last year, so a lot coming into my head today but it is all about managing things and this is what I did today and I think I did it pretty well."

Bradbury makes yet another ace

Dan Bradbury set his sights on eclipsing DP World Tour great Miguel Ángel Jiménez after making his third hole-in-one of the season. The Englishman made a final round ace at the 17th at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January and added another - again at the 17th - in the second round of the SDC Championship two months later. His hat-trick came on the third at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid - a hole on which he was four over across the week last season - as he holed a four iron from 226 yards as part of a front nine of 29 in a brilliant 63. The last person to make three in a season was Spaniard Jiménez, whose ace at the second in round three of the 2015 BMW PGA Championship was a record-breaking tenth of his career. Bradbury still has a long way to go to match that all-time mark but insists he will be going all out to hit a record-breaking fourth perfect shot in one season over the rest of 2023. "Now I know that I'll be aiming at all the par-threes, that's for sure," he said when told of the record.

Pepperell makes par from a toilet

Eddie Pepperell made possibly the par of the day at the 17th on day three after putting his tee-shot where nobody wants to go unless they need to go. The Englishman sent his tee-shot a long way left and saw his ball scurry under a toilet but got a break as the presence of the grandstand meant he could go to the drop-zone by the side of the green. While fans searched for his lost ball under the WCs, Pepperell looked like he had squandered his good fortune as he played a poor chip, only to hole from 18 feet and make a three. "I felt sorry for the person in the toilet," he said. "I had no idea it was that far left. I knew it wasn't a very good shot but I didn't expect it to end up where it did. I got a very good break, really, and a bad chip and a very good putt. The putter bailed me out there at the end."

Sometimes it's your day

More often than not, when you want a golf ball to bounce one way it goes the other. But not for Mike Lorenzo-Vera.

From downtown......

Just the 60 feet. Take a bow Nathan Kimsey.
