As the leading groups prepare to begin their final rounds at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, the fundraising for this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open Official Charity, the ARCHIE Foundation, has broken through the £70,000 mark.
A variety of highly successful fundraising initiatives – that began with Wednesday¹s Pro-Am day – have led to this accumulative total which will continue to rise with the on-going Birdie Pledge adding to this impressive total throughout Sunday afternoon.
As of 1330 local time on Sunday, the Birdie Pledge has raised a grand total of £18,865 from the 1296 birdies and 62 eagles.
The Tour Players’ Foundation and headline sponsors Aberdeen Asset Management are each donating £5 for every birdie, £10 for every eagle and £50 for every albatross made during the competition rounds in addition to two special hole in one donations.
Other initiatives have included the aforementioned Pro-Am, which saw both morning and afternoon sessions raising considerable sums as all the professional golfers involved donated their appearance fee to the ARCHIE Foundation.
Additionally, nine of the world¹s leading players donned Tartan Trews, which resulted in Aberdeen Asset Management donating a sum for each player sporting the colourful garments during their round.
Also, prior to the Championship week a small number of playing places in the Pro-Am were auctioned off, raising considerable sums.
All told, the Pro-Am contributed upwards of £35,000 to the grand total.
ARCHIE themselves have also been in action fundraising via a Grand Prize Draw which has given every spectator attending the Championship an opportunity to support the Official Charity by purchasing a draw sheet and be in with a chance of winning some very special prizes.
All in, the spectators have generously given in excess of £11,000 to the ARCHIE Foundation.
With the leading groups yet depart the first tee, the £70,015 fund-raising total will continue to rise as the final day¹s play continues.
