When celebrities and professionals combine on the European Tour, the results tend to be spectacular. Last week on the east coast of Scotland, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship didn’t disappoint. After 72 holes of record-equalling drama across the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie’s Championship Course and Kingsbarns Golf Links, we review the best of the action, from A-Z.
A – Amateurs– As is always the case at the Dunhill Links, professionals were partnered by amateurs for three rounds at the Old Course, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie. However, only the top 20 teams were in action on Sunday.
B – Botham – Former England cricket captain Sir Ian Botham was paired with David Horsey for the 16th edition of the tournament.
C – Cabrera Bello– The Spaniard has gone 366 days without missing a cut on the European Tour.
D – Driving distance – Nicolas Colsaerts had an average driving distance of 340.5 yards on Friday.
E – English winner– Tyrrell Hatton is the 94th English victor on the European Tour.
F – Fisher – Ross Fisher earned a second placed finish for the second European Tour event in a row.
G – Grace – The 2012 winnerspoke to us about life on the roadprior to last week’s event.
H – Hugh Grant– The actor played three holes on his own on Thursday after playing partner David Howell pulled out through injury mid-way through the round. Grant himself then withdrew with a back injury two days later.
I – Inward nine – The 483-yard par four 18th was the hardest hole at Carnoustie in all three rounds.
J – Joakim Lagergren– For the second year running, Lagergren finished in fourth place in this event.
K – Kaymer – The German was the highest placed Ryder Cup player, finishing sixth.
L – Links– All three courses this week are renowned links courses on the Scottish east coast.
M – Marc Warren– The 35 year old was the highest placed Scot in the field.
N – Noren– Alex Noren equalled the Carnoustie course record on Thursday, with a superb 64.
O – Outward nine – Champion Tyrrell Hatton didn’t make a single bogey on his four front nines this week.
P – Pro-Am– The Pro-Am tournament included stars from the world of sport and entertainment, including actors Andy Garcia and Jamie Dornan, as well as cricketers Kevin Pietersen and Shane Warne.
Q – Qualification matters– Warren's fifth placed finish on home soil moved him from 125th in the European Tour Race to Dubai rankings to 70th.
R – Record – Hatton equalled the St. Andrews course record on Saturday with a stunning round of 62, which was ten under par.
S – Sterne – Richard Sterne played one of the shots of the week when he holed-out from the fairway on the famous Road Hole.
T – Teams– Kaymer and Grace both teamed up with their fathers, Horst and Peter, for the four rounds.
U – Up and down– Hatton got up and down at the ninth hole on Sunday to move five shots clear.
V – Victory– Hatton’s win sends him to fourth in the Race to Dubai rankings.
W – Willett – The Masters champion and his caddie Jonathan Smart joined forces for the Pro-Am competition this week and claimed top spot with a score of 38 under par.
X – X marks the spot – The walk down the 18th has been made by the all-time greats of the game.
Y – Youth – Lagergren’s playing partner this week was 17 year old amateur Shannon McWilliam.
Z – Zero bogeys– Hatton went 40 holes without a bogey until he dropped a shot on the 17th on Sunday.
