The 2020 Foshan Open was unable to take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic, however the venue marked what should have been tournament week with a string of local events.
Inspiring Young People
Founded in 2013, the Foshan Open has introduced and promoted golf through a series of creative activities for juniors, ladies and families.
With the intention of promoting golf culture and to support the education in the golf industry, the Club invited Dr. Chen Yibin, Deputy Director of Hotel and Club Management of Sun Yat-sen University-Institute of Tourism and more than 70 MTA Masters to Foshan Golf Club.
An International Event
As a leading international golf tournament in the Greater Bay Area, the Foshan Open has always shown openness and inclusion, professionalism and innovation, and offered a warm welcome to players and guests from all over the world.
The Spanish Chamber of Commerce in South China and Spanish entrepreneurs in China organised a Spanish golf tournament on Monday October 19, the first day of the Foshan Open tournament week.
More than 60 worldwide guests attended the event, including Consul-Generals of Spain, Australia, Canada, Germany, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands where they got to experience the golf course with tournament pin locations, followed by a traditional Spanish meal.
Mr. Jesus Garcia, Consul-General of Spain in Guangzhou, said: "In these difficult times, we had the opportunity to bring a bit of Spanish lifestyle to the south of China, and we hope that many players will have the chance to visit our country soon and enjoy the beautiful and challenging golf courses."
The First GEO-accredited Golf Tournament in Asia Pacific
The GEO Sustainable Golf Seminar was hosted on the second day of the week with members of GEO Oncourse, experts, journalists, club managers and guests from all over the country visiting the Club.
As a pioneer of sustainable development in the Greater Bay Area, Foshan Golf Club has been accredited by the GEO Foundation since 2013 and re-accredited in 2016 and 2019, becoming the first golf club to be accredited for nine consecutive years in the area. The Foshan Open also became the first golf tournament in Asia Pacific to receive GEO accreditation.
LOVE LIFE, LOVE GOLF
Seven champions emerged in previous years. They come from different countries and regions and have left their marvelous stories and wonderful photos at the Foshan Golf Club.
A special welcome board had been placed at the entrance of the clubhouse, so that people would experience the atmosphere of the tournament when they enter.
Julian Small, General Manager of Foshan Golf Club, said: “Although the 2020 Foshan Open was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we wanted to keep the spirit of the tournament alive and invite members and guests to experience the tournament course and enjoy nature and the fun of golf with their family and friends in this special week."
