The 2024 US PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club saw three Major Championship records set as Xander Schauffele went on to claim his maiden Major victory. Here, we recap the key records that were matched or broken at this year's US PGA Championship
62 - Lowest ever score in a Major
With an opening round of 62, Xander Schauffele set the tone for what would be an astonishing week of Major Championship Scoring. With nine birdies, the American carded just the fourth round of 62 in Major Championship history.
A first in a US PGA Championship, Schauffele became the first player in history to do it twice - having also shot a 62 at LA Country Club last year - and the first player to shoot a 62 and win.
Two days later, 2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry would make some history of his own, missing a 12 foot putt for 61 as he became the fourth different player in history to record a 62 in a Major.
With both men completing the feat, it becomes the second time there have been multiple rounds of 62 recorded at a Major. Branden Grace first achieved the record in 2017 at The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, while both Schauffele and Rickie Fowler added their own 62s during the opening round of the 2023 U.S. Open at L.A Country Club.
21-Under-Par - Major Championship Scoring Record
Xander Schauffele's impressive week ended with several new accolades, including the best score to par in Major Championship history.
Capping off his final round 65 with birdie at the last, Schauffele went one better than the previous record, which had been recorded on four separate occasions before this week. Jason Day was the first to post a score of 20-under during the 2015 PGA Championship, followed by Henrik Stenson at the 2016 Open Championship and Dustin Johnson at the 2020 Masters Tournament.
Runner-up Bryson Dechambeau finished his week on 20-under-par, becoming the fifth player in history to match the now second best score in relation to par in a Major.
263 - new PGA Championship 72 hole scoring record
Previously set in 2018 by Brooks Koepka at Erin Hills with a score of 264, Schauffele also went one better than his Ryder Cup teammate and fellow Major Champion in terms of his 72-hole score.
With rounds of 62, 68, 68 and 65, the reigning Olympic Gold Medal winner ended his week with a total of 263, cementing his place in the history books at Valhalla at this year's US PGA Championship.
