26 and counting for Jiménez

Charismatic Spaniard Miguel Ángel Jiménez has confirmed he’ll compete in the Omega European Masters for an astonishing 26th consecutive year.

Miguel Angel Jimenez is king of the mountains

The evergreen 50-year-old, a fan favourite around the world, continues to impress with his longevity and commitment to the European Tour.

Jiménez triumphed four years ago at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in Switzerland, and he’ll be one of the favourites when this year’s tournament gets underway on September 4th.

Many of the players in the field won’t have even been born when Jiménez made his first appearance on the Haut-Plateau back in 1989.

With The Ryder Cup being hosted at Gleneagles that same month, the Vienna resident will be striving to add to his win on home soil at the Open de España last month.

That win at the PGA Catalunya Resort, a European Tour Destination, saw Jiménez become the first 50-year-old to win on The European Tour.

With that success and lighting of the cigar, the Ryder Cup veteran also extended his own record for being the oldest winner in European Tour history.

He set his previous record at the 2014 Hong Kong Open, when aged 49 years and 337 days.

While others wind down their careers in their 40s, the opposite is clearly the case for Jiménez, who also holds the European Tour record for most wins by a player aged 40 and over, at 14.

Switzerland, and the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, will be delighted to once again host such a popular and successful player in early September.
