Genesis Scottish Open - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from day three of the second Rolex Series event of the season.

Ludvig Åberg edged further ahead, Robert MacIntyre raised hopes of a home win, Antoine Rozner landed a big bird on a par four and Sahith Theegala unleashed the 'super flop' on day three of the Genesis Scottish Open.

Åberg extends lead

Åberg will take a two-shot lead into the final round but MacIntyre will be breathing down his neck in search of an emotional home win. Åberg started the day with a one-shot advantage but trailed MacIntyre by two on the back nine as the Scot carded a 63 to delight the local fans and catapult himself up the leaderboard. The Swede then birdied the 16th and 17th, however, to sign for a 65 and get to 17 under as he searches for a first Rolex Series victory. Australian Adam Scott carded a 64 alongside MacIntyre to sit at 14 under, a shot clear of American duo Collin Morikawa and Theegala, South Korea's Sungjae Im and Frenchman Rozner.

Bob ready for another home challenge

Home hero MacIntyre will be looking to exorcise the demons of 12 months ago when he goes out in the final group just two shots off the lead. Last year, MacIntyre hit a stunning second into the last to set up a closing birdie and take a one-shot lead after a 64, raising hopes of a first Scottish winner of the national open since Colin Montgomerie in 1999. But Rory McIlroy had other ideas, birdieing the 17th and then hitting his own remarkable shot into the last to break home hearts. MacIntyre will start the final round three shots closer to the lead than he did last season and knows he will have to keep his emotions in check. "I've not been shy in saying it: the Scottish Open is the one I want," he said. "It's not going to change tomorrow. Tomorrow is just another round of golf and I've just got to control me and if I do that well, then I'm going to be in with a chance."

The Frenchman was 189 yards from the flag at the seventh when he hit what may well be the shot of the week. Åberg's reaction says it all.
