Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters - Day one digest

Everything you need to know from the first round at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.

Julien Guerrier went low while home favourite Jon Rahm put on a show on day one of the 2024 Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters.

Here is everything you need to know from the first round at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.

Guerrier goes very low

Guerrier shot his lowest round to par on the DP World Tour as he reeled off ten birdies - including five in a row from the second hole - in a spotless 62 to open up a one-shot lead on a day of low scoring in Andalucía. After turning in 29 courtesy of seven front-nine birdies, the Frenchman picked up three more coming down the stretch to reach ten under par. He said: "I had the feeling I was playing the PlayStation on the front nine! It was very nice. But we know golf, we know we have to stay in the present. Of course it was really nice but I try to stay focused because we know with this wind everything can happen."

Brown lands two eagles

Dan Brown may have taken a while to warm up on Thursday but when he finally did, the results were remarkable. After starting with five straight pars, the Englishman made an eagle from around 35 feet on the sixth. He then produced a brilliant burst of scoring on the back nine, firing another eagle at the long 14th as well as five birdies as he found form on the greens. He said: "The round actually started a bit slow but then I made an eagle on the sixth and then on the back nine, the last six or seven holes, I managed to hole some putts and had a chip-in on the 16th. It was good. It was a good, steady day and then a few putts rolled in towards the end."

Coussaud's amazing ace

Ugo Coussaud made a brilliant hole-in-one at the par-three eighth, holing from 175 yards using a six iron.

And Jesper Svensson very nearly got the second ace of the day on the 13th but instead his superb tee-shot hit the hole and didn't drop...

Rahm wows his home crowd

Home hero Rahm drew a big crowd on the opening morning and he rewarded them with some magnificent shots, including this approach at the ninth which set up a closing birdie...

Rahm and his caddie Adam Hayes will each be donating money for every birdie and eagle made by the Ryder Cup star this week to support families affected by the hurricanes in the United States.

Bradbury's shot-of-the-day contender

Last week's winner Dan Bradbury produced this delightful chip-in eagle at the sixth, with his ball taking two hops before nestling into the cup. What a shot...
