Alfred Dunhill Links Championship - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from the third round in Scotland.

Nicolas Colsaerts became just the fourth person in the history of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship to make an albatross while Tyrrell Hatton moved into pole position to become a three-time champion on day three on the Scottish coast.

Here is everything you need to know from the third round.

Hatton's love affair with this event continues

Hatton posted a record-equalling 61 at the Old Course at St Andrews to take a one-shot lead into the final round as he stepped up his bid to become the first three-time winner of this event. Hatton, who won here in 2016 and 2017 and has also recorded two runner-up finishes, continued his love affair with the unique tournament by firing an eagle and nine birdies at the Home of Golf to tie Ross Fisher's course record. He said: "I was just taking each hole as it came and just trying to make as many birdies as I could. I had actually shot ten under here before. So yeah, I really wanted to birdie the last. That's actually my lowest round on Tour as well. Felt like I was trying harder than I normally would for a putt on the last. Good putt and thankfully it went in. It was a cool day."

Colsaerts lands very rare bird

Colsaerts was leading by one as he stood over his approach shot at the 16th - his seventh hole of the day - at Kingsbarns. But his advantage was about to grow significantly as he produced the shot of the week so far from 223 yards with a six iron, catching the slope behind the pin and watching on as his ball rolled back into the cup for an amazing albatross. That catapulted him to 20 under par and gave him a four-shot advantage at the time, but he finished the day one shot behind leader Hatton on 21 under. This was the fourth albatross in the tournament's history after Colin Montgomerie's in 2002 and Lee Westwood's and Steen Tinning's the following year.

Fleet-footed

Just when it looked as though someone else's ball was going to collide with Tommy Fleetwood's feet as he was tapping in a close-range putt, he did this...

Amazing amateur makes awesome ace

Clément Sordet's amateur partner Louise Del Balzo treated the crowds at St Andrews to a hole-in-one at the eighth hole as the duo reached 30 under to book their place in the final round of the team event. They trail Tyrrell and Jeff Hatton by eight shots ahead of Sunday's showdown.

Special day for the McIlroy family

Saturday was a big day for the McIlroy family as World Number Three Rory celebrated his father Gerry's 65th birthday by playing with him at the Old Course at St Andrews. The father and son are partners in the team competition and as an extra present to his dad, Rory produced some of his very best golf as he made seven birdies on the front nine. During an on-course interview, he said: "It's absolutely incredible. To stroll around the Old Course with my dad on his birthday - it's always been nice. We've played the Dunhill many times together and it's usually the week of his birthday. So we've done this a few times but to do it on his 65th, it's a cool occasion and thankfully I've made a few birdies for his birthday."
