The Celtic Manor Wales Open 2005 will be the sixth tournament and as the development of the Wentwood Hills course, Ryder Cup venue 2010, continues the 2005 Celtic Manor Wales Open will be played for the first time on the resort’s Roman Road course. Voted Best Inland Course in Wales, this challenging course varies from the long open fairways of the front nine to a back nine that twists and turns through trees and across lakes and streams.
Year on year The Celtic Manor Wales Open attracts an increasing number of high profile entries. Last year’s champion Simon Khan battled it out with a field that included Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood, Paul McGinley, Phillip Price, Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Sandy Lyle and Ian Woosnam.
Players confirmed for the 2005 tournament include for the first time Nick Faldo, Europe’s greatest ever golfer with over 42 titles to his name, Ryder Cup stars Colin Montgomerie and Thomas Björn and Miguel Angel Jiménez, Europe’s most prolific winner in 2004 when he claimed 4 titles.
The Celtic Manor Wales Open Fringe Events include a Master Class with Nick Faldo on Friday the 3rd June, the PGA Junior Championships on the 4th and 5th of June and a daily Golf Doctor Experience where you will be able to pick up the latest golfing tips from the resort’s team of Golf Professionals. The tournament will be followed by The World Golf Trick Shot Championship on the 6th of June, with the top golf trick shot professionals battling it out for the title.
