Pepperell pleased to be playing at Carnoustie

Eddie Pepperell was delighted to upgrade from a commentary role at next week's Open Championship to a playing brief.

Pepperell claimed one of three spots at Carnoustie on offer at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open after finishing second to Brandon Stone at Gullane.

A closing 64 in East Lothian saw the Englishman finish four shots behind Brandon Stone, who also qualified after his scintillating final round 60, with Swede Jens Dantorp edging out Trevor Immelman via the Official World Golf Ranking to take the third berth.

Pepperell had been pencilled in to do some commentary for BBC radio, but will now step inside the ropes for the second time at the year's third major, having finished tied for 49th in 2015.

“It saves me doing 5 Live,” he joked. “I was actually looking forward - I was going to be there whatever happened.

“So I guess to be there playing is going to be nice.

“I'm going to drive home tonight. I'm probably going to fly up Tuesday and then I'll send the caddie out and he can tell me where to hit it and I'll try and do that.”
