Tyrrell Hatton moved into the lead as the second round of the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open began at Gullane.
The 26 year old Englishman has claimed two of his three European Tour titles over links courses in Scotland and upped his bid for a second Rolex Series crown with four birdies in his first eight holes.
At nine under par, Hatton led by one from overnight leader Luke List, his fellow American Patrick Reed, South African Dylan Frittelli and England's Ian Poulter.
Poulter was four under through seven, with Frittelli and Reed three under for the day and List adding to Thursday's course record 63 with a gain at the long second.
