Fantasy Three to watch in Ireland

With the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, the second Rolex Series event of the 2019 season, set to get under way at Lahinch Golf Club, our stats guru has crunched the numbers to make three suggestions for your fantasy teams.

Jon Rahm

Favourite:Jon Rahm

Tied fourth last year and the winner in 2017, the Spaniard has a close affiliation with the prestigious Irish tournament and comes into the week on the back of a runner-up finish in his homeland.

Rahm’s six stroke victory was the largest winning margin in the event for 22 years, and the three-time European Tour winner will return for his third appearance in the event.

Over the course of eight rounds the 24-year-old is a remarkable 36 under par, having shot an over par round just once.

Back on Irish soil, we expect Rahm to be in the mix once again.

Form Horse:Matt Wallace

Matt Wallace

The Englishman won three times last year and has come close to clinching another European Tour title on several occasions this season, having finished as a runner-up in both the Omega Dubai Desert Classic and the Betfred British Masters.

In fact, in his last five starts Wallace has recorded three top three fives, adding a share of third place at the US PGA Championship, and the BMW International Open, to his British Masters second-place spot.

A return to links golf, having come so close to winning at Hillside Golf Club in May, accompanied with his recent excellent form is why we like the looks of Wallace this week.

Wildcard:Álvaro Quirós

Alvaro Quiros

Another player who has hit form at a crucial time in the season is Álvaro Quirós. The Spaniard has finished tied second and tied third in his last two starts – worth keeping an eye on in Ireland this week.

The seven-time European Tour winner has signed for a final round of 66 in his previous two events, so if he is within striking distance on Sunday afternoon, expect him to make a charge for the title.
