The Renaissance Club becomes the latest of a congested yet high-quality East Lothian coast to host a European Tour event.
It will entertain the third of eight Rolex Series events of the 2019 season as The Renaissance Club makes its debut on the European Tour when the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open comes to North Berwick.
The Renaissance Club only opened in 2008 but under the guidance of decorated golf architect Tom Doak, he has transformed coastline into a picturesque links golf course - which some of the world's top golfers will tackle ahead of The Open Championship later this month.
We look at some of the other East Lothian golf courses which have been used on the European Tour.
The Renaissance Club
The Renaissance Club will host a European Tour event for the first time in its 11 year history when the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open begins on Thursday. The par 71 course will highlight the East Lothian coastline, especially with the newly designed ninth, tenth and 11th holes which showcase the spectacular views of the Firth of Forth. The tight and undulating fairways will be challenging enough for the players before being greeted with a 600 yard 12th hole. It is ranked the seventh longest course of the season so far and will be a valuable test ahead of The Open Championship at Royal Portrush.
Muirfield
The biggest star of the East Lothian coast is Muirfield. Adjacent to The Renaissance Club, Muirfield is steeped in golf history and has gone on to host The Open Championship on 16 occasions. The last of those came in 2013 when Phil Mickelson won the most recent of his five Major Championships. Murifield has hosted 11 Amateur Championships, with the 1973 Ryder Cup also played at the venue - where the United States retained the trophy with a 19-13 victory.
Gullane
Gullane has been a European Tour venue on two previous occasions, including the 2018 Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open where South African Brandon Stone posted a tournament record score of 260 to win by four shots. Gullane, situated left of Muirfield, first hosted the Scotland's national open in 2015. American Rickie Fowler was the victor, defeating compatriot Matt Kuchar and Frenchman Raphaël Jacquelin to claim his first European Tour title.
