Xander Schauffele wins JP McManus Pro-Am

Xander Schauffele followed up Monday's sensational 64 with a 70 on Tuesday to claim a one-shot victory at the JP McManus Pro-Am.

The American went into the second round of the 36-hole charity pro-am with a healthy three-stroke lead after his opening-day heroics at Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort.

And he made three birdies and a single bogey on Tuesday morning to set a ten under par total which no-one was able to catch.

World Number Nine Sam Burns finished alone in second after producing a tremendous 65 on Tuesday.

The huge crowds at Adare Manor were desperate to see home hero and Major Champion Shane Lowry make a late charge, roaring him on as he followed up three birdies on the front nine with further gains at the tenth and 12th to get within two shots of the lead.

But a bogey on the 14th stalled Lowry's progress and, although he got the shot straight back at the 15th and gave himself a good birdie chance at the par-three 16th, he had to settle for three closing pars and solo third place.

As well as a host of big-name celebrities and bumper crowds, many of the world's best golfers were in County Limerick for the two-day fundraiser, with Pádraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods among those attracting big galleries.

But it was Schauffele who warmed up for the Genesis Scottish Open later this week by securing victory.

He birdied the third before carding his only bogey of the tournament at the short fourth.

A bounce-back birdie followed on the fifth and he made another at the seventh to turn in 34.

He then reeled off nine pars on the back nine to enter the clubhouse on ten under - and that proved enough to take the crown.

The Gerry McManus Team tasted victory in the team event after reaching 37 under par over the two rounds.
