From June 2005 to February 2011, the World Number One spot changed hands twice. In the last 201 days, it has changed seven times.
The days of Tiger Woods' dominance in the Official Golf World Ranking appear to be over and the new generation, led by Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth and Jason Day, are dominating the game.
Those three occupy the top three spots in the world and they have been grouped together for the first two rounds of the WGC-Cadillac Championship this week. But what movement might we see in the rankings come Sunday night?
Jason Day can become World Number One if:
- The Australian wins the WGC-Cadillac Championship this week, and
- Jordan Spieth finishes worse than 11th
Rory McIlroy can become World Number Two if:
- He wins the WGC-Cadillac Championship
- He finishes second and Jason Day doesn't win
- He finishes from third to seventh (dependant on Day's finish)
- He finishes in a two-way tie for eighth and Day finishes worse than 59th
Bubba Watson can move to Number Two if:
- He wins the WGC-Cadillac Championship,and
- Jason Day finishes worse than a two-way tie for 18th,and
- Rory McIlroy finishes worse than fifth
Rickie Fowler can move to Number Three if:
- He wins the WGC-Cadillac Championship, and
- Rory McIlroy finishes worse than 18th
