Chris Wood needed just two and a half hours to book his place in the third round of the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Matchplay on Friday.
The 27 year old beat Spain's Jorge Campillo 5 and 4 to set up a last 16 contest with France's Julien Quesne, who defeated Jeev Milkha Singh 4 and 3 on day two.
The Lyoness Open Powered by Greenfinity Champion birdied the first two holes of his last 32 match before taking a three hole lead when Campillo found trouble on the third.
The players halved the par five fourth - easily reachable after a change in wind direction - with birdies before Campillo was forced to concede on the fifth, leaving Wood four up and seemingly in command.
Campillo halved his deficit by winning the eighth and ninth with birdies only to drop a shot on the tenth and fall three behind.
A birdie two at the 12th put Wood four up with six holes to play and the Englishman finished the job with bogeys on the 13th and 14th, which were enough to see him close out the win.
Wood was delighted to come out on top. He said: "It was good to get another good win under my belt, a second 5 and 4, which is great to conserve the energy for hopefully a potentially long weekend."
"I started off really nicely and when you get a nice lead like that early on, it is quite hard to come back."
Michael Hoey recorded a comfortable victory over Kristoffer Broberg, beating him 5 and 4, while Gregory Havret beat Seve Benson 2 and 1.
Local lad Richie Ramsay, who set the course record of 62 in 2006, is through after his 4 and 3 win against Edoardo Molinari, while Morten Ørum Madsen beat Alexander Levy by the same score.
