Wood on the ropes at Paul Lawrie Match Play

Top seed Chris Wood quickly found himself four down against Daniel Brooks as the second round of the Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play got under way at a rainy Archerfield.

Brooks was the lowest seeded player in the tournament at 32 but was six under for the 15 holes he played in beating Gareth Wright on Thursday and carried that form into the last-32.

The Englishman made a birdie-birdie start and then won the fifth and seventh with pars to sit four up after seven holes against Wood, who is looking for a good week to secure his place on the Ryder Cup team.

One man definitely through to the last-16 is local favourite Marc Warren, who claimed a 3 and 2 win over Magnus A Carlsson in the first match of the day.

Last season's beaten semi-finalist was impressive is defeating fifth seed Jorge Campillo in round one and he sent another seed tumbling on Friday morning.

The Scot lost the opening hole but went birdie-birdie to get his hose in front and then won the eighth and ninth to sit in a commanding position at the turn. The Swede battled on the back nine in a nip-and-tuck contest but a birdie on the 16th handed Warren the win.

He will next face Haydn Porteous after the Joburg Open champion beat David Horsey 3 and 2.

Scot Richie Ramsay was three up with five to play against Roope Kakko, while tournament host Paul Lawrie held a one hole lead over Richard Green at the turn.

Anthony Wall had also reached the turn and he won the first four holes to sit four up against fourth seed and fellow Englishman Richard Bland.

Third seed Matthew Fitzpatrick started birdie-eagle to get to four up against Matt Ford after eight holes, while James Morrison was three up after 14 holes against Graeme Storm.

Michael Hoey held the same advantage over sixth seed Matthew Southgate and Oliver Fisher was three up after 12 holes against Simon Khan.

Chris Paisley and Johan Carlsson were one up after 11 holes against Prom Meesawat and Robert Rock, respectively.

Alejandro Cañizares was three up after eight holes of his all-Spanish contest against Eduardo de la Riva, while Mikko Ilonen and Alex Noren were one up in the early stages of their matches against Maximilian Kieffer and Renato Paratore.

In the final match of the last-32, Nacho Elvira was two up after five holes against Craig Lee.
