Woburn set for festival of golf

One of tournament golf’s most historic venues, Woburn Golf Club, is preparing to host a festival of golf for the Travis Perkins Masters from September 4-6, when Scottish legend Colin Montgomerie will be chasing a record-breaking third successive title.

The 15th edition of one of the most eagerly-awaited events on the European Senior Tour’s schedule is set to provide fun for all the family with myriad activities taking place at a stunning venue which has a rich heritage of hosting prestigious tournaments down the years.

Over the last 33 years, a total of 54 professional tournaments have taken place at the Buckinghamshire venue, with the likes of Seve Ballesteros, Sir Nick Faldo and Justin Rose having won there.

The tournament with which Woburn became synonymous, the British Masters, returns once again this October with the backing of tournament host Ian Poulter and supporting sponsor Sky Sports, but English golf fans will be treated to another star-studded event in two weeks’ time.

Set within extensive grounds which include the stunning Woburn Abbey – host venue for the annual Senior Tour Player Awards Dinner – and the famous Woburn Safari Park, the Travis Perkins Masters promises this year to be more than just a golf tournament.

There is plenty to keep the kids entertained while some of golf’s greatest legends, including former Ryder Cup Captains Sam Torrance, Mark James and Montgomerie, battle it out on the Duke’s Course, with free golf lessons available as well as a number of fun activities and games.

There will be a bunker challenge, a long putt challenge, three golf nets for hitting balls into as well a golf simulator, where fans can pit their wits on some of the finest golf courses in the world.

The Travis Perkins Masters has become one of the most eagerly-awaited fixtures on the Senior Tour schedule since its inaugural edition in 2001, regularly attracting crowds of over 18,000 and always providing high drama. This year’s 15th instalment is expected to be no different.

Andy Stubbs, Managing Director of the European Senior Tour, said: “The Travis Perkins Masters is always one of the highlights of the season for the Senior Tour and our players relish the opportunity to return each year.

“Of course, our annual Awards Dinner takes place in the palatial building of Woburn Abbey, while the local surrounds provide plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, making it a real treat of a week for golf fans.

“Colin Montgomerie’s chase for a hat-trick will take centre stage over the Duke’s Course and with so many activities happening around the event, as well as nearby free public parking, it promises to be a great event once again.”

Travis Perkins plc will be the title sponsor for the eighth consecutive edition and has extended its sponsorship of the event until 2018.
Combined tickets for the Travis Perkins Masters and the British Masters are available now, giving spectators substantially discounted entry to both tournaments.

A combined any one day ticket for the British Masters and any one day for the Travis Perkins Masters costs £32.50 (£22.50 concessions) if purchased before September 1, while a season ticket for the British Masters plus an any one day ticket for the Travis Perkins Masters costs £82.50 (concessions £52.50).

As with 2014, this year spectators can also reserve onsite car parking for just £10 per day (Friday – Sunday), which can only be booked in advance and must be for a specified day.

This offer ensures a parking space adjacent to the first fairway within an easy 250 yard walk of the first tee, the 18th green, the tented village and the practice putting green. Anyone using this car park will also receive a complimentary voucher for a daily drawsheet.

Spaces in this car park are limited so it is advised to book early to avoid missing out. There is also free parking available in the main public car park.
