• His 13th European Tour International Schedule victory in his 253rd official European Tour event.

• Could move to as high as seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking from 11th.

• His second European Tour victory of the 2017 season following the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

• Joins Dustin Johnson (WGC-Mexico Championship and WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play), as multiple winners on the European Tour during the 2017 season.

• The first time he has recorded multiple victories in the same European Tour season since 2011. Is the third time during his career he has won twice in the same European Tour season. The years are: 1999, 2011 and 2017.

• His first Major Championship victory comes in his 74th Major Championship appearance, on what would have been the 60th birthday of Seve Ballesteros.

• This victory beats his previous best finishes in Major Championships of second in the 1999 US PGA Championship and 2007 Open Championship and tied second in the 2008 US PGA Championship and 2014 Open Championship.

• Prior to this victory he was in joint second place in the list of most runner-up finishes in Major Championships without winning, alongside Harry Cooper, Bruce Crampton and Doug Sanders. (Colin Montgomerie tops this list with five).

• Prior to the 2017 Masters Tournament he was in third place for the player to have played in most Major Championships without winning, on 73.  He stood behind Jay Haas (87) and Lee Westwood (75).

• His first Major triumph comes in his 71st consecutive Major Championship. He has played in every Major since The Open Championship in 1999.

• His victory comes in his 19th Masters Tournament appearance.

• This victory beats his previous best finish in the Masters Tournament of tied fourth in 2004. Was also eighth in 2002 and tied eighth in 2013.

• This victory is his 23rd top ten finish in a Major Championship.

• Sets a new Masters Tournament record for the most appearances before winning for the first time, with 19. This beats the previous record of 15 by Mark O’Meara, the year he won in 1998.

• Aged 37 is the oldest first-time winner of the Masters since Angel Cabrera, who was 39 in 2009.

• The second consecutive 37 year old to win a Major Championship, following Jimmy Walker at the 2016 US PGA Championship and both first-time Major winners.

• The first Spanish winner of a Major Championship since José Maria Olazábal at the 1999 Masters Tournament.

• The third different Spanish Major Champion, following Seve Ballesteros and José Maria Olazabal.

• The eighth Major victory by a Spanish player, five for Seve Ballesteros, two for José Maria Olazabal and one for Sergio Garcia. Of those eight, five have come at Augusta National. Ballesteros won in 1980 and 1983, Olazábal won in 1994 and 1999 and Garcia in 2017.

• The 17th victory at the Masters by a European Tour Member since Seve Ballesteros won his first Green Jacket in 1980.

• The 12th different European Tour Member to win the Masters since Seve Ballesteros won his first Green Jacket in 1980.

• The 52nd Major Championship victory by a European Tour Member since 1979 when Seve Ballesteros won The Open Championship in 1979.

• The 26th different European Tour Member to win a Major Championship.

• Becomes the 21st victory at Augusta National by a non-American.

• Becomes the 15th different non-American to win the Masters title.

• Following Jordan Spieth (2015) and Danny Willett (2016) becomes the third consecutive player to make the Masters their first Major title.

• Becomes the sixth consecutive first-time Major Champion in a row. They are: Jason Day (2015 US PGA Championship), Danny Willett (2016 Masters Tournament), Dustin Johnson (2016 U.S. Open), Henrik Stenson (2016 Open Championship), Jimmy Walker (2016 US PGA Championship) and Sergio Garcia (2017 Masters Tournament).

• Becomes the seventh player from Continental Europe to win a Major Championship. They are: Arnaud Massy (1907 Open Championship), Seve Ballesteros (1979, 1984 and 1988 Open Championship and 1980 and 1983 Masters Tournament), Bernhard Langer (1985 and 1993 Masters Tournament), José María Olazábal (1994 and 1999 Masters Tournament), Martin Kaymer (2010 US PGA Championship and 2014 U.S. Open Championship),  Henrik Stenson (2016 Open Championship) and Sergio Garcia (2017 Masters Tournament).
