• His first European Tour victory since the 2015 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
• Wins on the European Tour for his third consecutive season. This moves him into second place in the current list of most consecutive winning European Tour seasons. The leader is Justin Rose, with four (2012-2015). This is the first time during his European Tour career he has won for three successive seasons.
• This victory beats his previous best 2016 European Tour performances of tied third in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship and WGC – Cadillac Championship.
• His first professional victory on Irish soil.
• Just his third European Tour victory on European soil. The previous two were the 2014 BMW PGA Championship and 2014 Open Championship.
• This victory in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation comes in his tenth appearance.
• This victory beats his previous best performance in Ireland’s national open of seventh in 2008.
• Since the event became part of the European Tour International Schedule in 1975, follows Christy O’Connor Jnr (1975), John O’Leary (1982), Padraig Harrington (2007) and Shane Lowry (2009 as an amateur)), as Irish winners of the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation.
• Becomes the first player to win a European Tour event and have his name in the tournament title as sponsor or host.
