• His second play-off victory of the season, following his win in the Hong Kong Open. He was the last player on The European Tour, in 2010 to win two play-offs in the same European Tour season.

• His fifth European Tour victory on home soil and first since the 2003 Turespaña Mallorca Classic. Spain is now the country he has won more European Tour events than any other.
• Becomes the fifth Spanish victory of the 2014 season. They are: Miguel Angel Jiménez (Hong Kong Open and Open de España), Pablo Larrazábal (Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship), Sergio Garcia (Commercial Bank Qatar Masters) and Alejandro Cañizares (Trophée Hassan II). (This figure would equal the most by a single country this season, along with South Africa).
• Moves into tied tenth in the list of most official European Tour victories, with 21.
• The 13th player to win this season from the 21 stroke play events on The European Tour to make up a final round deficit to win.
