• The fourth first-time winner of the season. They are: Nathan Holman (Australian PGA Championship), Marc Leishman (Nedbank Golf Challenge), Brandon Stone (BMW SA Open hosted by City of Ekurhuleni) and Haydn Porteous (Joburg Open).

• All these four first-time winners have been in consecutive events. The last time The European Tour witnessed four consecutive first-time winners was in 2007 they were: Anton Haig (Johnnie Walker Classic), Liang Wen-chong (Singapore Masters), Chapchai Nirat (TCL Classic) and Daniel Vancsik (Madeira Islands Open BPI).

• The second consecutive South African winner on The European Tour, following Brandon Stone (BMW SA Open hosted by City of Ekurhuleni).

• Aged 21 years and 193 days becomes the third youngest South African winner in European Tour history, after Charl Schwartzel, who was 20 years and 103 days at the 2005 Alfred Dunhill Championship, played in December 2004 and Anton Haig, 20 years and 300 days in the 2007b Johnnie Walker Classic.

Aged 21 years and 193 days become the youngest winner of the Joburg Open, beating the previous record of Branden Grace, who was 23 years and 240 days in 2012

• Victory comes in his second appearance in the Joburg Open.

• This victory beats his previous best Joburg Open performance of tied 24th in 2015.

• Joins Ariel Canete (2007), Branden Grace (2012) and George Coeetze (2014), as players to make the Joburg Open their debut European Tour victory.

• With Brandon Stone winning seven days ago and Haydn Porteous today, becomes the first time South Africa have won back-to-back European Tour events since George Coetzee (2014 Joburg Open) and Thomas Aiken (2014 Africa Open).

• With Brandon Stone winning seven days ago and Haydn Porteous today, becomes the first time two different South African players have won back-to-back European Tour events since George Coetzee (2014 Joburg Open) and Thomas Aiken (2014 Africa Open).

• With Brandon Stone winning seven days ago and Haydn Porteous today, becomes the first time, two South African first-time winners  have won back-to-back European Tour events since John Fourie (1977 Callers of Newcastle) and Tiene Britz (1977 German Open).

• Was a fully exempt Challenge Tour Member for 2016 before the Joburg Open. Becomes the first Challenge Tour Member to win on The European Tour since Roope Kakko at the 2015 Madeira Islands Open – Portugal – BPI.

• With Brandon Stone winning the BMW SA Open hosted by City of Ekurhuleni and Haydn Porteous winning the Joburg Open, the first time South Africa have won the first two events in the calendar year of a season since Branden Grace won the 2012 Joburg Open and 2012 Volvo Golf Champions.

Becomes the seventh South African victory in the history of the Joburg Open, since the first event in 2007. They are: Richard Sterne (2008, 2013), Charl Schwartzel (2010-2011), Branden Grace (2012), George Coetzee (2014) and Haydn Porteous (2016).

• The 134th South African victory in European Tour history.

• The 36th different South African to win in European Tour history.

• Gains his largest European Tour prize of €153,809.

• Gains a European Tour exemption until the end of 2017.

• Gains his second as a professional. The first was the 2015 Barclays Kenya Open on the European Challenge Tour.

• Gains an exemption into The Open Championship for 2016 as result of being one of the top three players within the top ten not otherwise exempt.

• The second former Challenge Tour player to win on the 2016 European Tour season. They are: Brandon Stone (BMW SA Open hosted by City of Ekurhuleni) and Haydn Porteous (Joburg Open).

• The 375th European Tour victory by a former Challenge Tour player.
