• Becomes the first American to win a Major Championship since Zach Johnson at the 2015 Open Championship.

• Becomes the fifth American winner of the U.S.Open since 2008. They are: Tiger Woods (2008), Lucas Glover (2009), Webb Simpson (2012), Jordan Spieth (2015) and Dustin Johnson (2016).

• The third consecutive first-time Major winner, following Jason Day (2015 US PGA Championship) and Danny Willett (2016 Masters Tournament).

• The first time there have been three consecutive first-time Major winners since Keegan Bradley (2011 US PGA Championship), Bubba Watson (2012 Masters Tournament) and Webb Simpson (2012 U.S. Open).

• His four shot final round winning comeback is the largest at the U.S Open since Webb Simpson, came from four back to win the 2012. U.S Open.

• The second consecutive U.S. Open at Oakmont where the winner made up four shots in the final round. Angel Cabrera achieved this in 2007 and now Dustin Johnson in 2016.

• His four shot final round winning comeback is the largest in a Major Championship since Phil Mickelson made up five to win the 2013 Open Championship.

• Becomes the first player since Payne Stewart to finish runner-up in the U.S. Open and win the following year. Stewart was runner-up in 1998 and won 12 months later.

• Becomes the 205th American victory in European Tour history.

• Becomes the second American victory of the 2016 European Tour season. They are: Rickie Fowler (Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship) and Dustin Johnson (U.S. Open).

• Gains a ten year exemption into the U.S Open.

• Gains a five year exemption into the Masters Tournament, Open Championship and US PGA Championship.

• Gains his 12th victory as a professional.
