Win a great prize in August's Shot of the Month

It’s that time of the month again where we offer you, the fans of The European Tour, the chance to win a fantastic prize in return for voting for your favourite shot from August.

August Shot of the Month competition

You have until September 19 to choose between three stunning shots, with one lucky winner receiving aGPS GolfBuddy World.

The three contenders for August’s Shot of the Month feature two superb approaches from Oliver Fisher on his way to claiming victory in the Czech Open, and an incredible shot to the green from Thomas Björn in the fifth play-off hole at The Gleneagles Hotel, effectively sealing the Johnnie Walker Championship for the Dane.

Shot A – Oliver Fisher

Shot A comes from Oliver Fisher, as he bagged an eagle after holing out from 125 yards on the par four eleventh during his third round at Prosper Golf Resort.  The perfectly played approach helped Fisher to ten under par, and a two shot lead by the close of Saturday in the Czech Open.  Of the shot, Fisher said: “[It] was a bit of a bonus. It was quite a tough pin to get to, but it came out absolutely perfectly, and that’s the kind of stroke of luck you need sometimes.”

Shot B – Oliver Fisher

Shot B is Oliver Fisher’s second entry into August’s Shot of the Month, coming in Sunday’s final round at the Czech Open.  The approach was even more crucial after Fisher – having led by three shots at the turn – dropped shots at the 11th and 13th holes, meaning a good score on the 14th was imperative to maintaining a title challenge.  From 119 yards out, Fisher landed an impeccable wedge just beyond the pin, with some well-controlled backspin leaving the ball just two feet from the hole and a guaranteed birdie putt.  The shot steadied the ship and Fisher duly went on to a well-deserved maiden Tour victory.

Shot C – Thomas Björn

Shot C was simply a stroke of wonder from Denmark’s Thomas Björn.  Coming in the final play-off hole at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, Björn had seen off all other contenders bar South African George Coetzee.  Playing the par five 18th for the fifth time, Björn punched a wonderful seven iron to within three feet with his third shot in what was a supreme display of mental strength and ability.  Coetzee couldn’t make his distant birdie putt, handing Björn his second Tour victory of 2011.

The previous winners of The European Tour’s Shot of the Month in 2011 were Paul Casey (January), Alvaro Quiros (February), David Horsey (March), Matteo Manassero (April), Luke Donald (May), and Rory McIlroy (June and July).
