Bernd Wiesberger carded a brilliant eight under par 64 on day three of the Nordea Masters to move into contention for a third European Tour title.

The Austrian started the day ten shots behind halfway leader Matteo Manassero, but as the leading group teed off Wiesberger had reduced the deficit to two shots as he advanced to 11 under par.

The 27 year old had a birdie at the third cancelled out by his only dropped shot of the day at the fifth, before reeling off four birdies in a row to turn in 32.

Four further gains followed on the back nine as Wiesberger joined Mikko Ilonen on 11 under.

Italian Manassero, who became the youngest winner of the BMW PGA Championship last weekend, was looking for a fifth European Tour victory.

As the late starters teed off things quickly became bunched at the top of the leaderboard.

Finland’s Ilonen moved within one of Manassero with a birdie from 12 feet at the second, and home favourites Jonas Blixt and Alex Noren joined France’s Julien Quesne and Dane Thomas Björn on ten under.

Blixt birdied the second from 20 feet and chipped in at the third, 2011 winner Noren birdied three of the first four including a spectacular 80 foot putt at the fourth, although he did bogey the fifth, while Björn had a third birdie of the day from ten feet at the fourth.
