What's in the Bag - Dawie Van Der Walt

Dawie Van Der Walt battled his way to a maiden European Tour win at the Tshwane Open and we took a look inside his bag to find out just how he did it.

By looking at theGenworth Financial Statisticsyou can see that Van Der Walt based his success this past week at Copperleaf Golf & Country Estate, Centurion on his accuracy into the putting surfaces, ranking second in Greens in Regulation with 90.7 per cent.

Drilling down further into that statistic, such a high percentage means that Van Der Walt only missed six greens all week, and of that half dozen he got up and down for his par every time.

In fact the 30 year old South African only made one bogey all week, and that came at the tenth hole in the final round as the result of a three putt.

Rather surprisingly it was in this area of the game that Van Der Walt was less impressive, as his putting performance only ranked him 34^thand 39^thin Putts per GIR and Putts per Round respectively, however this is understandable when considering how many greens he hit in the right number or less.

These numbers all meant that Van Der Walt led the field in Par Four Scoring with an average of 3.73 strokes, and achieved an almost equally high fourth place with 2.75 on the short holes.

He also hit the most par fives in two throughout the four days, finding five in less than regulation, one of which yielded an outrageous eagle during the final round at the fourth, the longest hole in European Tour history.
