What's In The Bag - Anirban Lahiri

In this week's edition of "What's In The Bag" our focus isn't on whatwas in Anirban Lahiri's bag but more whatwasn't!

Anirban Lahiri

Lahiri joined Phil Mickelson (2013 Open Championship) and Pablo Larrazábal (2008 Alstom Open de France) as the only players since 2005 to win on The European Tour without a driver in their bag.

Delhi Golf Club is known as a particularly tight course and at 6,923 yards it doesn't demand length off the tee. Lahiri, who has played the course several times on the Asian Tour, followed a recent trend of winners in leaving his driver at home. Of the past ten Asian Tour winners at Delhi Golf Club, five won without using a driver.

The 27 year old still managed to hit almost 60 per cent of the fairways for the week and had an average driving distance of 274.3 yards.

The key to Lahiri's victory, however, was his short game. His chip-in on the 71st hole was the highlight of a Sunday charge that saw the Bangalore native make up seven shots on the 54-hole leader, SSP Chawrasia.

When he did find the green, the World Number 34 holed out better than anyone else in the field. His 1.649 Putts Per Green in Regulation ranked number one for the week and helped him hole the winning 12 foot putt for birdie on the first play-off hole.

Lahiri has become the first player to win multiple events in his European Tour rookie season since Sergio Garcia won the Murphy's Irish Open and Linde German Masters back in 1999.
