What's in the bag - Andrew Dodt

Consistency tee to green and a perfect recovery game proved the deciding factors for Andrew Dodt as he secured his second European Tour win at last week’s True Thailand Classic presented by Black Mountain.

The 29 year old Australian followed in the footsteps of fellow Qualifying School graduate Anirban Lahiri by winning just months after regaining his European Tour card at PGA Catalunya Resort.

Also in a similar vein to the Indian in Malaysia, Dodt was straight as an arrow off the tee in Thailand, hitting an impressive 73.2 per cent of fairways – the 15th best in the field. Dodt’s driver was more than just accurate however proving to be one of the key weapons in his bag as he drove himself to ninth in the week’s Driving Distance standings averaging 301.1 yards.

If the Queensland native was good off the tee he was near flawless from the fairway hitting an extraordinary 79.2 per cent of Greens in Regulation – the ninth best in the field.

On the rare occasions when Dodt did find himself in trouble, however, a perfect recovery game kept his score intact as the Aussie made 100 per cent of sand saves.

The man from down under maintained this consistency on the greens with his putter averaging 1.697 Putts per GIR – the 16th best in the field – and 28.3 putts per round as he shot his way to victory.

Dodt’s performance this week was long, straight and accurate, and had all the hallmarks of a worthy champion.
