WGC-Bridgestone Invitational day one - What they said

Thomas Pieters will take a one-shot lead into day two of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational after a bogey-free 65 at Firestone Country Club.

Russell Knox

Here, we take a look at what some of his fellow European Tour Members had to say after their opening rounds.

Russell Knox (66, -4)

"I hit the ball great today. I've obviously struggled a little bit recently but my game's not been far off, I know it hasn't been. I made a couple of adjustments in my equipment which is going to be important moving forward. Today was how I normally have played. I'm very happy to have shot four under. I went back to the putter that I used when I won in China. I figured it did work at one point so it worked today, I rolled the ball beautifully. I switched iron shafts, which I haven't done in five years. That seemed to make it a little easier for me."

Jon Rahm (67, -3)

"I started with really good vibes hitting good shots with a pretty good front nine and the back nine everything got a little complicated. From 11 to 14 I couldn't hit the fairways, couldn't hit the shots. Luckily my putter saved my life a little bit. I made a couple of really good putts to stay one over par on those holes and then what happened on 16 was just a bonus. Anything under par on this golf course, anybody would have taken it and to finish the way I did, it was a great finish."

Ross Fisher (67, -3)

"We started on 10, just didn't feel overly comfortable. Practice has been going really well, been hitting the ball nicely and just wasn't really in the right rhythm on the first nine holes and it was a little bit sloppy. Gave myself a few chances but didn't really make anything. Back nine I caught fire early on with an eagle on number two, chipping in there was a really nice momentum booster. Around this course you're not going to hit all the greens so you're going to have to rely on your short game and I made a couple of really good saves on three and four to keep the round going. Then birdieing five and closing with a birdie on nine, 67, three under, it's a great start."
