Westwood raring to go in Denmark

Lee Westwood is excited about making his debut at Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort as he looks to go one step better than 2018 at the Made in Denmark presented by FREJA.

The Englishman made his tournament debut last season at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club and lost out in a four man play-off, one of three top tens before claiming his first victory in four years at the Nedbank Golf Challenge hosted by Gary Player.

He may have turned 46 last month but Westwood is still as hungry as ever for European Tour title number 25, starting this week in Farsø.

"The game is there or thereabouts, I'm looking forward to playing this week," he said.

"It's a course I've heard a lot of things about and hopefully it can suit me as much as last year's golf course suited me and we can go one better. It would be nice to win.

"I'm still hungry to play well and win tournaments. I still go and practise nearly as much.

"I tend to play golf courses pretty well when I've seen them once. I'm looking forward to going out and getting a game plan together. I only saw the golf course last year in the pro-am and I didn't have too much trouble there.

"The crowds are very keen and a lot of people come out to support it. There's a good vibe and atmosphere to the tournament.

"There are a lot of good holes, a little bit of water. I've heard a lot about the 16th surrounded by the crowds and it will be nice to go out there and experience it."

Westwood acted as a Vice Captain under Thomas Bjørn for last year's Ryder Cup triumph and admits the Great Dane was an influence in him playing this event for the second year running.

The two great friends are sharing a cabin this week - although Bjørn is not playing due to an ankle injury - and met up recently as Westwood celebrated his birthday.

"We're sharing the same cabin, he's doing all my cooking and laundry," Westwood joked. "If he's not playing he might as well make himself useful.

"We went away for a short break for my birthday and Thomas was there. It was a nice weekend away, we get on well."
