Westwood leads strong field in Icheon

World Number One Lee Westwood has "great expectations" as he prepares to compete at this week's Ballantine's Championship in Korea.

The Englishman returned to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking with victory in Indonesia last week, but faces a tough task trying to record back-to-back wins with an impressive field lining up at Blackstone Golf Club in Icheon.

American Ryder Cup star Dustin Johnson, South African three-time Major winner Ernie Els and Westwood's compatriot Ian Poulter are just some of the superstars lining up.

"Going to try to play well in this championship and hopefully on Sunday afternoon, have a chance to win it," said Westwood.

"I played well last week - my confidence is high.

"I'm looking forward to getting out there tomorrow morning and having a look at the golf course and see if it suits me. I didn't realize the World Number One had never competed in Korea before, so it's a bit of an honour to bring the title to Korea."

Westwood's Ryder Cup teammate Poulter comes into the event seeking a first top-20 finish on The European Tour this season.

"Obviously very excited to be back in Korea," he said. "It's been a couple of years since I have been to Korea. I finished second place the last time I visited Korea, so hopefully I can go one place better. My game is in form, and I'm very excited to play this week."

Also in the field this week and looking to claim the €367,500 are defending champion Marcus Fraser, Spanish star Miguel Angel Jiménez and homes favourite and former US PGA Champion Y E Yang.
