Westwood keeps his nose in front

Lee Westwood maintained his one-shot lead as the final round of the Made in Denmark got under way at Silkeborg Ry Golf Club.

The Englishman began the day at the top of the leaderboard and a single birdie in his first three holes was enough to keep him there at 17 under as he looks for a 24th European Tour title.

Belgian Thomas Detry was looking for his first win and he was a shot back, with English duo Steven Brown and Jonathan Thomson at 15 under.

In the race to take the last qualifying place for the Ryder Cup Team, Matthew Fitzpatrick was five shots back and needs a win to have any chance of getting to Le Golf National automatically.

A two-way tie for seventh or better for incumbent Thorbjørn Olesen would keep Fitzpatrick out of the final spot even if the Englishman were to win, and the Dane was in a tie for 32nd at eight under.

Brown got off to the perfect start, with a tee-shot to 15 feet on the par three first setting up an opening birdie to send him into a share of the lead.

That then became a three-way tie when Detry hit a beautiful approach to the third and left himself a very short putt for his first birdie of the day.

Westwood hit back on the same hole from six feet, however, with Brown giving back the shot he picked up on the first.

Thomson started his day with three pars to sit two shots ahead of England's Ryan Evans and Matt Wallace, and South African Erik van Rooyen.
