Weather halts progress in stormy Shenzhen

An early birdie took Soomin Lee to the top of the leaderboard on day two of the Shenzhen International before thunderstorms brought a delay to proceedings at Genzon Golf Club.

The threat of lightning meant that 46 minutes were lost on Thursday, resulting in 32 players having to return to finish their first rounds on Friday morning.

None of those players could make a major move up the leaderboard, with Brandon Stone parring the last to stay at five under, one shot off the target set by Lee and Alexander Levy.

When the second round got under way, Lee quickly moved to seven under with a birdie on the 11th but after just an hour and 40 minutes of play, the players were brought off as storms moved into the area, with play not due to restart until midday at the earliest.

In-form Dutchman Joost Luiten also took advantage of the 11th, holing out from the fairway for eagle to join Levy, who had been due to go out in the afternoon, at six under.

Matteo Manassero made an eagle-birdie start from the tenth to move to five under after seven holes alongside Stone, who was level par for his round through two.

James Morrison had birdies on the 11th and 13th to join the group at four under with Gary Stal, who was level through two holes, and Eduardo de la Riva.

There was then a group of nine players at three under, with Paul Dunne, Raphaël Jacquelin and Trevor Fisher Jnr all on the course when the horn sounded.
