Watson keeping Holmes on his toes

Double Masters Tournament winner Bubba Watson was closing in on J B Holmes as he chased back to back World Golf Championships titles at the WGC-Cadillac Championship.

Holmes had led by five shots overnight as he pursued a wire-to-wire victory, but quickly saw his lead cut to four shots as fellow American Watson holed from 15 feet for birdie on the first, with the leader unable to match the feat in the group behind after a poor pitch from 55 yards.

The lead was down to three shots when Watson holed from ten feet for birdie on the third and minutes later it was reduced to just a single stroke.

Holmes badly misjudged his birdie attempt on the third from almost 60 feet and three-putted for bogey, while Watson rolled in another birdie putt from six feet on the fourth.

Dustin Johnson was then inches away from making a hole-in-one on the fourth for the second day running, the tap-in birdie taking him to seven under and within three of the lead.

The European challenge had faltered slightly despite Henrik Stenson birdieing the first, with bogeys at the second and sixth dropping the Swede to three under.
