Matt Wallace took a share of the lead as things tightened up during round three of the Hero Indian Open.
Argentinian Emiliano Grillo entered the weekend at DLF Golf and Country Club with a four-shot lead but turned in 38 and that left the door open for the chasing pack, with Englishman Wallace picking up four shots in ten holes to join him at nine under.
Local hero Shubhankar Sharma and Spaniard Pablo Larrazábal were a shot back, with England's Andrew Johnston then at seven under.
Grillo dropped a shot on the first and another on the second after a poor chip, with Sharma also struggling in the rough but then chipping in to save his par.
Wallace had chipped in for birdie on the second and they were going in all the over the course as, ahead on the par five fourth, Johnston made a chip of his own for an eagle to get within one.
Sharma could not save his par on the third and when a poor tee-shot from Grillo brought a third bogey of the day on the fourth, Johnston shared the lead.
Wallace had dropped a shot on the third but he took advantage of the fourth and then hit a beautiful tee-shot into the fifth to sit alone in second.
Sharma's tee-shot into the fifth was not as impressive but he holed a monster putt for birdie, with Grillo saving par after being inches from putting his tee-shot into the water.
Sharma three-putted the sixth to drop a shot but bounced straight back with a stunning approach into the tight pin at the seventh.
Johnston's progress so far had been serene but he found water off the tee at the eighth to surrender a bogey and, despite all his troubles, Grillo was back in the solo lead.
He was not there for long, though, as Wallace drove the ninth green with an iron and then holed a brilliant double-breaker for an eagle and a one-shot lead.
Sharma got some good fortune on the eighth when his second caught on the bank rather than rolling into the water and he got up and down to move to eight under.
Larrazábal also made the most of the par five after he had done the same on the fourth to bounce back from a bogey on the second.
The four-time European Tour winner found the fringe off the ninth tee and made it three birdies in a row to get to eight under before Grillo followed him in.
The 25 year old got to the side of the green off the tee and played a lovely chip to get up and down and share the lead.
American Sihwan Kim had two birdies in 13 holes to sit at six under, one clear of Joost Luiten, Paul Peterson and Matthias Schwab.
