Wallace blown away by Major ace

Matt Wallace topped off his favourite round of golf in his career with a stunning hole-in-one as he made headlines on day three of the US PGA Championship.

The Englishman has three wins in the past 15 months on the European Tour but was playing in just his fourth Major Championship after missing the cut at the past two US Opens and this season's Open Championship.

He made the weekend at Bellerive Country Club and was playing alongside three-time Major winner Jordan Spieth and Andrew Putnam, with 14-time Major champion Tiger Woods in the group behind.

That meant bumper crowds were following and Wallace did not disappoint them on the 16th, hitting a five iron from 230 yards that bounced twice before rolling into the cup for the 26th hole-in-one of the season.

"It was mind blowing," he said. "It's my first one as a pro as well so to do it on a Saturday at a Major - and the crowds were unbelievable today, that was really special.

"I enjoyed every minute out there today, it's the first time in probably forever. It's the best round of golf, the most enjoyable fun playing with Jordan and Andrew.

"It was just amazing and to top it off like that, I said to (caddie) Dave a couple of holes before, 'this is the most fun I've ever had' and then to do that, it's mental.

"I'm surprised I even made two pars up the last two holes.

"Tiger was playing behind us and some people don't like that but I loved it. I loved looking back and seeing him there with the big cheers.
"It was a special day and it's going to be in my memory for a long time.
