Wall surges up the Race to Dubai Rankings

Englishman Anthony Wall sealed his second European Tour title in his 489th start after edging out Sweden's Alex Noren in a tense finale at the Aberdeen Asset Management Paul Lawrie Match Play to climb up from 127th to 73rd in the Race to Dubai Rankings as he edges closer to a place in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship taking place at Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai from November 17-20.

An array of European Tour stars, including 2013 Race to Dubai winner Henrik Stenson, are preparing to lock horns for their countries in the Rio Olympics as golf makes its long awaited return in the prestigious event. 28 out of the 60 Olympic Men’s entries have competed in previous DP World Tour Championships and are excited about representing their countries on a global platform.

Away from the Brazilian sunshine, there was plenty of action in Aberdeen as Wall denied Noren a Scottish double after claiming a one-shot victory over the in-form Swede who was triumphant at Castle Stuart in the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

Noren made an exceptional start despite windy conditions, continuing the form that he had shown all tournament to reach 19 under par for the first five rounds.

Wall reacted brilliantly after going two holes down and managed to card a birdie to tie the contest with a gain at the sixth as Noren missed the fairway.

Noren squandered a birdie opportunity at the 17th hole as he failed to force extra holes which enabled Wall to take the lead. Eventually Wall managed to make a par while Noren missed another birdie chance.

However, Noren's runner-up finish gained him 116,500 Race to Dubai points to move from 14th to 11th and on the cusp of breaking into the top ten of the rankings.

England's James Morrison won the third-place play-off against compatriot Oliver Fisher after establishing a brilliant lead that he was in no mood to give up. The result saw Morrison gain 67,500 points to move from 61st to 52nd in the Race to Dubai rankings.

Sweden's Johan Carlsson, German Maximilian Kieffer and South Africa's Haydn Porteous shared fifth place to each claim 38,500 points. Carlsson moved from 59th to 54th in the rankings, Kieffer advanced from 71st to 64th and Porteous climbed six places from 64th to 58th.

England's Matthew Fitzpatrick, Spain's Nacho Elvira and Scotsman Richie Ramsay all shared ninth place, with each player gaining 22,500 points.

The Nordea Masters champion, Fitzpatrick, broke into the top 20 of the Race to Dubai rankings, Elvira has moved from 68th to 62nd, and Ramsay progressed from 57th to 55th.
