Wales Seniors set for Speedy Sunday finish

The final round of the Speedy Services Wales Senior Open at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is set for an early finish on Sunday afternoon.

With weather reports for the Porthcawl area on Sunday indicating increasing heavy rainfall as the day progresses, tournament organisers have taken the decision to move the final round tee times forward by one hour, meaning the first matches will tee off at 07:20.

The last match of the day will tee off at 11:30, with the final round scheduled to conclude at approximately 16:00.

Michael Petch, Tournament Director of the Speedy Services Wales Senior Open, said: “The forecast for tomorrow, particularly in the afternoon, is quite poor, so we are going to tee off an hour early in a bid to avoid as much of the bad weather as possible.

“We are obviously hoping the weather doesn’t turn out as forecast, but we have taken this step as a precaution in case we are affected.”

Ian Woosnam will tee off this afternoon’s second round with a one-shot advantage over the field, looking to become the first Welshman to lift the Speedy Services Wales Senior Open.

Entry to the Speedy Services Wales Senior Open from June 14-16 is free of charge to the general public, with car parking priced at just £5.
