Volvo China Open: Day 1 in numbers

The wind blew on the opening day of the Volvo China Open at Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club. There were a lot of high numbers and a few low ones. We've dug through the scores and stats from today's play to bring you the 12 most interesting numbers.

68- Low score of the day by Thomas Pieters, David Howell, Bradley Dredge and Michael Hendry.

74.9- The average score during today's opening round. Of the 156 players who teed it up, six broke 70 whilst 12 failed to break 80.

2- Bogey free rounds, courtesy of Bradley Dredge and Michael Hendry. Compare that to 16 players who finished day one without a birdie!

  • The number of shots under par for David Howell on par threes this season. The Englishman leads the Tour in par three scoring.

69- The score of the defending Volvo China Open champion, Alexander Levy. This is the first week Levy has ever attempted to defend a European Tour title, having picked up his maiden victory at this event last year.

48.4- Percentage of Fantasy Race To Dubai teams that have Tommy Fleetwood in them. More than any other player. The World Number 55 shot a level par 72 today.

1- The only hole that played under par today was the par five 13th (4.78).

1- Eagle all day, by Australia’s Terry Pilkadaris on the 440 yard par four sixth hole.

345- Total birdies today.

666- Bogeys or worse.

20- In 20 years of the Volvo China Open there have been 20 different winners. Could we have our first two-time winner this week? There are six former champions in the field (Alexander Levy, Nicolas Colsaerts, Scott Strange, Damien McGrane, Stephen Dodd and Langwei Zhang).

3,000,000- Only three events in the 2015 Race To Dubai (Nedbank Golf Challenge, WGC Cadillac Invitational and the Masters) so far had a higher prize fund than this week’s event (nearly €3m).
