Vital World Ranking points available

European Tour Members could significantly boost their standing on the Official World Golf Ranking in this week’s BMW PGA Championship with vital World Ranking points available.

Ian Poulter

The winner of The European Tour’s flagship event will earn 64 World Ranking points – one of the largest of the season outside the Major Championships and World Golf Championships - while points are available throughout the field down to 56th position, meaning there could be some notable moves on the World Ranking.

Englishman Ian Poulter, winner of the WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship in February, will return to the World’s Top Five should he win at Wentworth Club, as could Paul Casey if he successfully defends his title.

Last year Casey reached his own career high of World Number Three courtesy of his victory in the BMW PGA Championship, having started the week in seventh position – one place better off than his current ranking.

European Tour Members Martin Kaymer, Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald could all move into the Top Ten with a good performance over the revamped West Course.

Kaymer, who is currently 11th, needs a top seven finish to move back into the World’s Top Ten while Harrington, Goosen and Donald would all need to lift the trophy to secure a return.

Race to Dubai winner Lee Westwood needs to finish 11th or higher to stay at World Number Three ahead of American Steve Stricker after the Englishman reached his career high position on the Official World Golf Ranking at the weekend.
