Villegas brings international feel to Munich

Camilo Villegas is looking to create some good memories at this week’s BMW International Open, and hopes a lucky sponsor can help him grab a maiden European Tour title.

The Colombian won the first of his four US PGA Tour titles in a BMW-sponsored event, and having made the cut at last week’s US Open Championship is looking forward to a different type of test at Golfclub München Eichenried.

“I've always wanted to come to this tournament,” said Villegas, whose win at the Wyndham Championship last year ended a four-year title drought.

“The golf course is in great shape; it's nice to see grass after playing last week at the US Open and I’m looking forward to this week.

“I won my first tournament on the PGA was the BMW, so great memories.

“BMW just puts on a great show wherever they go. I've had a chance to play some of their events and they are world class events.

“They are a great supporter of our game around the world, maybe one of the biggest supporters of the game, and we just have to say thanks for that, thanks for supporting us, for being there.

“When you get a chance to hold the trophy, you're just accomplishing your goals and you're doing what you know you have to be doing. It would be pretty special.”

Villegas is so far without a top ten finish in 2015, but the 33 year old, whose best effort on The European Tour came when he was third in the WGC–Accenture Match Play five years ago, believes he is making the right improvements.

“Winning at the end of last year was my main goal, and I accomplished it toward the end of the year which was nice,” he added. “2015 has been a little bit slow again, but we keep grinding.

“We all want to play better - you're number 100 in the world, you want to be 80; you're number five, you want to be number two; you're number two, you want to be one. We are always working on that - we are constantly grinding and trying to get better.

“I'm going to give it my best and hopefully come Sunday, I can be up there, give myself a chance and walk out of here with good memories.”
