Update: US Senior Open to be completed on Monday

The final round of the US Senior Open will commence at 16:30BST (11:30 local time) after the course at Scioto Country Club has been cleared for play.

Conditions at Scioto Country Club

Play was delayed at first light in Columbus, Ohio, after rain and the possibility of a lightning storm. But conditions have improved and the first group will set off at 16:30BST.

Spain’s Miguel Angel Jiménez, searching a maiden Senior Major Championship, is the current leader after 54 holes on three under par.

He is one shot ahead of American Gene Sauers, who carded a second round 71 for a score of two under par.

“Unfortunately, we had a little thunderstorm and rain,” said Jiménez. “With heavy rain out there, it makes it very tough for us to play.”

They will be joined by 1991 Masters champion Ian Woosnam in the final group on Monday. The Welshman is tied for a share of third place on one over par alongside Americans Loren Roberts and Billy Mayfair.

Woosnam joins Jiménez and Sauers in the final group which will tee-off at 18:15BST (13:15 local time).

European Senior Tour Members David Frost and Bernhard Langer are a shot further back on two over par in a tie for sixth place alongside five others.

Langer will go in search of a fourth Senior Major Championship, and his second US Senior Open title, after winning in 2010.

“It will play quite different because it was pretty firm,” he said. “We will probably get plugged balls in the fairways. The greens will be softer and we might spin balls back off the green instead of going over.”
