The 2021 Road to Mallorca International Schedule has been bolstered by the addition of back-to-back events in Sweden in May.
The Range Servant Challenge by Hinton Golf will take place at Hinton Golf Club in Malmo from May 13-16, 2021, while the Dormy Open will be held at Österåkers Golf Club, located close to the Swedish capital of Stockholm, from Wednesday May 19 – Saturday May 22, 2021.
The Swedish double header will mark the European Challenge Tour’s return to European soil for the first time in the 2021 season following the South Africa Swing, which consists of three co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour and brings the total number of events on the 2021 Road to Mallorca to 26.
The Dormy Open will be played on the Öster by Stenson course at Österåkers Golf Club, the first course designed by 2016 Open Champion and 2000 Challenge Tour Number One, Henrik Stenson.
Jamie Hodges, Head of Challenge Tour, said: “We are committed to providing as many playing opportunities as possible to our members and we must thank the Swedish Golf Federation and Johan Hinton for providing us with the resources to add two full-field events to our schedule.
“The Challenge Tour has successfully hosted events in Sweden for over 30 years and we are delighted to be returning for the first time since 2018 for the Range Servant Challenge by Hinton Golf and the Dormy Open.”
Ola Lindgren, Swedish National Men’s Team Head Coach, said: “The step from Sweden’s national MoreGolf Mastercard Tour to the European Tour level has been missing. Our young professionals and best amateurs have had few opportunities to gain experience from international professional tournament golf.
“With the European Challenge Tour now back on Swedish soil, it is an important piece in the rebuild of men’s professional golf in Sweden. I look forward to the tournaments and hope to see our Swedish players play well.”
Marcus Norman, Sports Director of the Swedish Golf Federation, said: “These two new tournaments are proof that many people are willing to work hard to contribute to a turnaround for men’s golf in Sweden.
“We really want to thank the European Challenge Tour, the venues Hinton Golf and Österåker Golf Club, the partners Dormy and Range Servant and all others involved for their flexibility, commitment and fast decision making.”
Johan Hinton, CEO of Hinton Golf Club, said: “Hosting a tournament on the European Challenge Tour has been on our minds for more than ten years. You need partners to make it happen and when this opportunity presented itself at very short notice we did not hesitate – this is something we really like to do.
“We will put additional resources into making the Hinton Golf Club – Rönnebäck course in top condition for the tournament. Our experience from hosting national professional events is that the work you put into making the course tournament ready will benefit you for a long time afterwards. This means our members will get to play a course in great condition and can be proud that the club is a European Challenge Tour host, even if they are not able to attend as spectators this time.”
The Range Servant Challenge by Hinton Golf and the Dormy Open will be played under the auspices of the European Tour’s health strategy which will continue to evolve in line with Swedish Government guidance.
