Twitter reacts to Danny Willett's win

At 6.58pm, it was confirmed. Danny Willett was the 2016 Masters Champion. The Englishman put on a stunning display of golf Sunday to take home his first Major championship.

Willett’s win was also major news on social media.

Masses of people took to Twitter to congratulate the 28 year old on his victory. First up, Danny’s fellow players

Willett became the first European to win the Masters in 17 years and just the second Englishman to wear the green jacket. The first, Sir Nick Faldo, was one of the first to share his congratulations.

Fellow Englishman Justin Rose shot a final round 70 to finish in the top ten at Augusta. His tweet included some nice British emoji usage.

Some of Willett's strongest competition late on Sunday came from American Dustin Johnson. Despite a double bogey on the 71st hole, Johnson finished in the top five.

Willett's countryman Paul Casey notched his second straight top six finish at Augusta.

Low amateur at the Masters Bryson DeChambeau was in the winner's ceremony with Willett and tweeted his congratulations to Willett as well as thanking Spieth and Paul Casey, who he played with in the opening two rounds.

Luke Donald was at Augusta this year but he wasn't surprised to be watching the TV and seeing his friend Danny Willett at the top of the leaderboard.

In his first professional Major, Matt Fitzpatrick put together one of the rounds of his life on Sunday, shooting a 67 to finish inside the top ten.

Shane Lowry had plenty to celebrate himself on Sunday, having made an incredible hole in one on the 16th hole.

Ian Poulter shot 69 in the first round at Augusta before falling back over the weekend, however he was back home in time to watch his fellow Englishman walk up the 18th with a two shot lead.

Bubba Watson's caddie, Ted Scott, saw this kind of performance coming from Willett.

Plenty of other players got involved too.

As a Masters champion, Willett will be invited back to Augusta every year and will join a list of famous names at the Champions Dinner on Tuesday night. Some of the players in that elite club shared their congratulations.

It seems the whole of the professional golfing world were glued to the TV on Sunday.

European Tour winner David Lipsky used the moment to share his Danny Willett look-a-like, Theon Greyjoy from Game of Thrones.

Willett is the first Major champion of the year and he will head to the next three Majors looking to become the first Englishman to win two Majors in the same season since Nick Faldo in 1990.

As a big football fan, the new Masters champion will be excited to see he received a couple of special congratulatory messages from the England national team, his beloved Liverpool FC and good friend Alan Shearer.

Plenty of other celebrities were clearing watching the action on Sunday.
